Why Neurostars

A different kind of care

We started Neurostars because families here deserve better: better care, better consistency, and a team that truly understands this community.

Exceptional Staff, Exceptional Stability

We know that children thrive when paired with skilled professionals who stay long enough to build meaningful relationships. Frequent turnover disrupts progress for everyone involved. That's why Neurostars invests in highly competitive salaries and a supportive work environment, so our team members build careers, not just jobs. The result is consistent, high-quality care from people who know and care about your child.

Local Team, Local Values

Every member of our clinical team has provided services in Humboldt County for over a decade. We understand the unique culture, values, and challenges of life on the Redwood Coast, and we know that a one-size-fits-all approach isn't a good fit for this community. We're committed to responsive care for your family and to strengthening our community through stable employment and genuine partnerships.

Affirming, Person-Centered Care

We celebrate neurodiversity and believe that every child's differences are a part of who they are, not problems to be fixed. Our programs are designed to build strengths, respect autonomy, and empower your child to develop skills that are meaningful to them and to your family. We listen to your child's voice, monitor for their comfort, and never use coercive or restrictive approaches.

We Invest in the Best Tools

Great developmental support requires good data, but we want our staff focused on your child, not on their devices. Neurostars invests in advanced clinical tools that support individualized teaching while allowing technicians to stay fully engaged during sessions. Our tools were chosen for one purpose: to make each session more effective and more enjoyable.

Our Philosophy

Grounded in science, guided by love

Neurostars was founded on the belief that evidence-based developmental support and deep respect for the individual are not at odds. They're inseparable. We use the science of behavior analysis not to change who a child is, but to help them build the skills they need to live a life that's rich and meaningful to them.

We know that the best outcomes happen when families are true partners in the process. That means listening to your priorities, respecting your culture and values, and designing programs that work within the real context of your life. We believe in collaboration over prescription, empowerment over compliance, and celebrating difference rather than erasing it.

Our approach is grounded in behavioral health science, informed by neurodiversity-affirming practices, and guided by the principle that every person deserves to be treated with dignity, autonomy, and joy.

Empowerment

We support individuals in making meaningful choices about their time, relationships, and environment.

Family Partnership

We identify and build on existing strengths, guided by your values, culture, and goals.

Evidence-Based Practice

Every strategy we use is supported by research and adapted to each individual's needs.

Affirming Difference

We respect neurodiversity and never seek to eliminate the traits that make a person who they are.

Our Team

Meet the people behind Neurostars

Founded by two Board Certified Behavior Analysts with deep roots in the Humboldt County community.

Brianna Jensen, BCBA, Clinical Supervisor at Neurostars

Brianna "Bri" Jensen

MA, BCBA
Co-Founder & Clinical Supervisor
Bri is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst who brings a blend of clinical expertise, compassion, and over a decade of experience supporting families and individuals across a range of ages, cultural backgrounds, and diagnoses. She holds a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Early Childhood Development from Cal Poly Humboldt, and an MA in Applied Behavior Analysis with an emphasis in Autism Spectrum Disorders from Ball State University.
Bri specializes in assent-based, trauma-informed, and child-led behavioral support, and prioritizes collaboration with caregivers to create environments that promote learning, growth, and connection. She approaches her work with the belief that behavior is communication and that meaningful progress occurs when interventions honor autonomy, dignity, and lived experience.
Her clinical strengths include designing individualized programs that align evidence-based practices with the values and goals of the families she serves, with an emphasis on practical strategies that support long-term success and quality of life.
Outside of work, Bri is an avid outdoor enthusiast and can often be found rock hounding along Humboldt County's beaches and riverbeds. She also enjoys hiking, singing and performance arts, reading, writing music and poetry, and spending time with her pets and loved ones.

Questions & Answers

Frequently asked questions

We know you have questions. Here are the ones we hear most often from families.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a well-researched approach to understanding how behavior works and using that understanding to teach meaningful skills. At Neurostars, we practice ABA in a way that is affirming, respectful, and centered on your child's wellbeing. We focus on building skills that your child and family identify as important, like communication, social connection, daily living, and self-advocacy, rather than trying to make children appear "typical." We never use coercive or restrictive methods, and we continuously monitor your child's comfort and engagement throughout every session.
We currently accept children and teens from 12 months through 17 years of age. We may consider participants outside this range depending on program capacity, staff expertise, and community need. Existing clients who turn 18 may continue with us until their program goals are met.
We serve families in the greater Humboldt County area, roughly from Fortuna in the south to Trinidad in the north, and east to Blue Lake. If you're located outside these boundaries, please reach out. We consider referrals on a case-by-case basis depending on your needs and our ability to match you with a staff member.
All of our services are provided in the home and in community settings, never in a clinic. We believe that children learn best in the environments where they actually live, play, and interact with others. Your behavior analyst will work with you to determine the best settings for your child's goals, which might include your home, a park, a community program, or other settings relevant to your family's life.
Most of our participants receive between 12 and 25 hours per week, though the right number depends on your child's individual needs and your family's schedule. We work to balance clinical best practices with the realities of your daily life. ABA is one piece of a rich and meaningful life, not the whole picture. Your behavior analyst will recommend an intensity based on the assessment and discuss what makes sense for your family.
We currently accept funding through Partnership HealthPlan of California, Redwood Coast Regional Center, and private pay. We are actively working to expand our accepted insurance providers, including Anthem Blue Cross and Magellan. If you're unsure about your funding options, we're happy to help you figure out what's available during your free consultation.
Three things set us apart. First, we're local. Our entire clinical team has been part of this community for over a decade, and we understand the unique needs and strengths of families here. Second, we invest in our staff through competitive pay and strong support, which means less turnover and more consistent care for your child. Third, our clinical model is explicitly neurodiversity-affirming: we focus on empowerment, respect autonomy, and never use coercive or restrictive practices. We believe that who your child is matters more than any checklist.
We take those concerns seriously and share many of them. Historically, some ABA practices have prioritized compliance over wellbeing, used punitive methods, or focused on making autistic children appear neurotypical. Neurostars rejects those approaches entirely. Our practice is built on respect for neurodiversity, ongoing monitoring of your child's assent and comfort, reinforcement-based strategies, and goals that are meaningful to your child and family, not goals designed to make others more comfortable. We're always happy to have this conversation in more depth during a consultation.
